Anne of Ingleside is the sixth book in the series, and takes place a decade
after the last book, Anne's House of Dreams. The focus is placed
on Anne who, the mother of five precocious children, is pregnant with her
sixth child.
The spirit has never been more lively at Ingleside, and with
the intolerable Aunt Mary Maria visiting, Anne is just teeming
with activities! Throughout the book, Anne helps deal with her
budding children's everyday
obstacles (ie. Jem's consistent yearning for a dog). As the
story advances, there is a crisis in addition to Anne's life, for
she worries that Gilbert
no longer cares for her. She does not understand how this is possible,
for she is the same exuberant, little red head of Anne of Green
Gables! Refusing
to settle for less, Anne puts forth her determination to convince
Gilbert that she is worthy of his affections!
Quote: "How white the moonlight is tonight!" said Anne Blythe to herself, as she went up the walk of the Wright garden to Diana Wright's front door, where little cherry blossom petals were coming down on the salty, breeze-stirred air.
